We are into the full swing of things and have been busy the last couple of weeks.
In LEAD time, students have been learning about personal victories and practicing the first three habits. Ask your student about what it means to be proactive, begin with the end in mind, and putting first things first. In reading students have been practicing Daily 5 routines and getting into the habits of STAR Reading. Students have also been completing their DRA's (Developmental Reading Assessment). For writing, students will begin writing a personal narrative. We will pick small moments in their life to focus on, and students will retell this as a story. We will work on creating a bold beginning, using sensory details, developing characters, and writing strong endings. We just finished up Topic 2 in math. Students have been busy adding and subtracting large numbers. This week we will begin Topic 3. In Topic 3, students will be reviewing basic multiplication, and we will work towards multiplying multi-digit numbers. If your students don't know their basic multiplication facts, this is something they can be working on at home. There are tons of free resources online, or there are some listed on my page under "student resources". Please watch for Topic 3 math homework pages to come home. Remember, these are optional, but your student may earn extra dojo points for the pages they complete. Also, your students have been told if a math lesson is hard for them that day, those are the pages they should focus on. If you have questions about this, please let me know. Last but not least, in social studies we just finished up our unit on reading and understanding maps. Students took an assessment on Tuesday. Please watch for this to come home. We will begin learning about the regions of Missouri, and then move into our Lewis and Clark unit.
