It's hard to believe, but we are finishing up first quarter and have been very busy the last couple of weeks.
In LEAD time, students have been learning about the last four habits and practicing the working together. Ask your student about what it means to be Think Win-Win, First Seek to Understand then to be Understood, Synergize, and Sharpen the Saw. In reading students have been getting into the routine of STAR Reading. Students have leveled books and assignments for their STAR teacher. Also, students recently took the 1st Quarter Reading Assessment. For writing, students finished up writing a personal narrative. They were to choose a small moment in their life to focus on, and used the writing process to write it as a story. They were to include a bold beginning, sensory details, show the actions, feelings or thoughts of the characters, and writing strong endings. We are currently on Topic 4 in math. Students have been busy working hard learning different strategies to estimate and multiply. We are working on multiplying two digit numbers. If your students don't know their basic multiplication facts, this is something they need to continue working on at home. There are tons of free resources online, or there are some listed on my page under "student resources". Please watch for Topic 4 math homework pages to come home. Remember, these are optional, but your student may earn extra dojo points for the pages they complete. Also, your students have been told if a math lesson is hard for them that day, those are the pages they should focus on. If you have questions about this, please let me know. In Social Studies we just finished up our unit Missouri Regions and students took an assessment on Tuesday. It was a fun assessment as students showed the 4 regions, major cities, State Capital, 2 major rivers, as well as Willard by decorating their Missouri shaped cookie appropriately. Thank you to those who sent in supplies for this. We will continue learning about the journey of Lewis and Clark . Parent/Teacher conferences are around the corner. Each student should have brought home a blue reminder with your scheduled day and time. We are looking forward to meeting with each of you and are striving for 100% participation.
