In the Classroom...
Math: We are learning (and reviewing) how to add and subtract whole numbers through the thousands place. For example: 4,085 + 2,193. Students are regrouping and borrowing. Students should also practice subtracting across zeros. For example: 3,000 - 1,675. (Parents can access math videos and worksheets at home, go to the math tab, Pearson link, and have your child share their username and login.) Writing: Students are finishing up their first 5 paragraph, personal narrative essay. They have worked hard on good beginnings and good endings. Soon, they will have a chance to peer edit and revise before they publish their essay. Science: We are wrapping up our unit on ecosystems. Last week, students worked together in teams to create a mural that represents specific ecosystems and presented them to our class! (See pictures on class dojo!) Reading: Last week, we finished all reading assessments and grouped students into similar groups for STAR reading rotations. Although, 4th graders do not have regular reading homework, please have your child set up a nightly reading routine. It is extremely helpful to have your child read aloud and discuss what they read with you. Please ask questions and dig deep into what they are reading. Students greatly benefit from parents/family members reading aloud as they follow along. STAR Reading Begins September 19th! Homework: Reading - 60 minutes each week. ***Remember students need to take and pass 6 book quizzes each quarter. |
